It’s unusual to find someone who has donned so many hats throughout their lifetime. Anil Pandey is an entrepreneur, journalist, writer, actor, and philanthropist who manages four thriving businesses. Pandey began his acting career in high school and has come a long way since then, having been featured in movies such as Sadak, Jeevan Rekha, Bekabu, and Rudra. However, his philanthropic work has set him apart from the rest.
Pandey, a native of Nepal who now lives in the United States, is the founder of several organizations, including the charitable organization Motherland Nepal, Everest Cuisine Restaurant, the M&M Thread Salon, and Mr. Pickle’s Sandwich Store. Moreover, he serves as the Nepal Tourist Board’s Public Relations representative in the Bay Area. Pandey continues to spread the philanthropic wave of helping uplift the Nepalese community in American society at large.
Pandey established Motherland Nepal in 2005 to assist the expanding Nepalese population in the San Francisco Bay Area and to save Nepalese heritage in the United States. It’s a nonprofit based in San Francisco with the stated goal of increasing interest in Nepal as a tourist destination. Founded on a shared dream of world peace and freedom for all people, the organization’s members plan and attend activities to foster the development of the Nepalese community in the United States and Nepal. Pandey has helped with a wide range of projects, including constructing the Nepalese Community Center, launching the Grief Center, funding for schools, awareness campaigns, cultural exchange programs, and fundraising efforts. After a huge earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale struck Nepal in April 2015, killing over 8,000 people, Motherland Nepal was among the victims’ most active and generous donors. Pandey donated $25,001 to the Bay Area Nepalese Community Center in 2016.
Besides his philanthropic work, Pandey has been sponsoring the Gender Equality Journalism Prize with the help of Motherland Nepal every year. In 2018, the prize fund was set at 1 million Nepalese rupees, and with interest every year, two journalists would be awarded the Journalism Prize with the help of Motherland Nepal.
Pandey’s efforts have contributed significantly to preserving and promoting Nepalese culture in the United States and worldwide. He continues to work tirelessly to uplift the Nepalese community and promote gender equality in journalism. Pandey’s philanthropic work serves as an inspiration to all those who aspire to make a positive impact on society.
People often called him the Godfather of Nepal. And now these days he has started working on mental health issues too and trying to get a consulate office in California.
