“If you like people, you should consider a career in digital marketing or sales.”

Those are the words of Henry S. Gavilanez, a well-known digital marketing specialist with a background in event promotion and sales.

Gavilanez has been featured in online marketing magazines and news sites for his expertise in digital marketing and event promotion, sharing his top tips with marketing professionals worldwide.

“My career, while still in its early stages, has been fulfilling, because I’ve had the opportunity to help people and learn about what makes people tick.”

Gavilanez has a message for those who have a knack for people – consider digital marketing and sales.

“If you’re a result-driven individual who wants to make a difference in the lives of others, or perhaps if you want to shape the success of a company, you need to consider marketing or sales. While they’re both different, they’re also deeply intertwined.”

Henry Gavilanez says marketers nowadays have to be hyper aware about the importance of driving results, regardless of what type of marketing they’re doing.

“Marketing isn’t as simple as putting things out into the world. It’s about putting things out into the world that help people, and drive them to make decisions that ultimately benefit themselves and in turn you or the company you work for.”

Gavilanez says marketing and sales are both symbiotic. The best marketers and salespeople create truly beneficial experiences from beginning to end for their customers, and their customers keep coming back.

Marketing and sales also go hand-in-hand because without any marketing, you’re unlikely to even be in a position to sell anything.

“No matter where you want to end up, you can build the skills necessary for a truly rewarding career by interning or offering to work for somebody. It will allow you to hone your skills and develop pattern recognition skills so you can rinse and repeat the things that work and achieve success.”

For Henry Gavilanez, this opportunity came when he assisted with the planning and promotion of Sirona’s Cerec 25th event, which was directed at doctors, dentists and lab professionals.

“That event taught me a lot about the work as well as the strategy that goes into getting people to attend an event. It’s not as simple as selling a ticket on the spot, but about warming people up to your event, getting them to consider attending and then ultimately getting them to make a definite decision in favor of attending.”

Gavilanez says he plans to continue helping people with digital marketing and event promotion, but ultimately wants to make the most difference by educating aspiring marketing professionals and people who are already in the field to drive results.

“Driving tangible results is what separates aspiring marketers from the people who make all the difference and progress in the industry, and I want to teach people the unique ways they can drive results.”

Henry Gavilanez says it’s about recognizing patterns and your own interest, and combining them in a way you can rinse and repeat to help people get results at scale.

For himself, his passion for in-person events helped him apply his skills and knowledge to get RSVP and attendees to attend events. For others, that might be media buying or targeted advertising.

“To be good at sales or marketing, you have to get to know yourself,” says Gavilanez.

“You have to stand behind your product, service or event.”

“You have to stand behind what you sell.”
