Dmitriy Makarov, a London-based entrepreneur originally from Kyiv, has built one of the most remarkable marketing agencies in Europe, working with world-class brands such as BMW, Durex, Intel, Domino’s, Hugo and NIVEA. His company now employs more than 100 specialists and has delivered over 500 international campaigns, reaching a global audience of more than 2.6 billion. At the centre of his philosophy is the GMG framework – Grind. Mastery. Growth. – a principle that guides both his business and his personal life.
“Grind is the continuous work on yourself, your skills and your business,” Makarov explains. “From my first freelance projects to running my own agency, every step was fueled by persistence.”
From self-taught beginnings to global campaigns
Dmitriy Makarov’s journey began with self-education in esports and digital marketing. Over time, he became a specialist in influencer campaigns, performance marketing, digital strategy and large-scale content production. Unlike many agencies that rely heavily on advertising spend, his focus is on generating content with viral potential.
“I do not believe in numbers for the sake of numbers; my focus is on efficiency, engagement and playing the long game,” he says. That long-term view has helped him turn a handful of freelance projects into a business trusted by multinational clients, all underpinned by the GMG philosophy.
Biohacking as a tool for leadership
One of the most distinctive elements of Dmitriy Makarov’s approach is his interest in biohacking as a management tool. For him, leadership begins with discipline in everyday routines – from sleep and nutrition to exercise and stress management. He follows a diet with minimal sugar, practises light sports, uses intermittent fasting under professional supervision and tracks his health both through personal reflection and technology.
“Supplements are not magic pills,” he explains. “They are only an addition to a healthy lifestyle, and even a ‘safe’ supplement can have side effects or be unnecessary.”
He has introduced many of these practices to his team as well, including meditation, breathing sessions and even red-light therapy to improve recovery. Daily cold showers and mindfulness exercises have become part of his personal routine, but also influence the wider culture at his company. As he says, “It is not about fashion trends, it is about consciously managing both individual and team states.”
Data-driven wellbeing
Alongside lifestyle choices, Makarov places strong emphasis on data. Health-tracking devices are now being implemented across his team to monitor strain, recovery and sleep quality. He highlights three key measurements: heart rate variability, sleep balance and overall strain levels.
“For me, the most valuable metrics are heart rate variability (HRV), sleep quality and strain levels. HRV offers insight into stress adaptation and recovery quality. Sleep quality and phase balance are especially essential when life runs at high speed. And monitoring strain levels helps balance work, training and rest,” says Makarov.
The meaning of GMG
The GMG philosophy ties all of these threads together. Grind reflects the hard work that has defined his path from freelance beginnings. Mastery represents the expertise he continues to refine in marketing, analytics and management. Growth embodies both financial success and personal development, ensuring the company evolves alongside its people.
Dmitriy Makarov has proven that GMG is more than a motto, it is a practical framework that drives long-term success. His blend of discipline, adaptability and human-centred leadership has positioned him as a figure shaping the next chapter of global marketing.
