Advantage IR, one of the country’s leading clinics for minimally invasive treatments, presented its recently published findings on Genicular Artery Embolization at the Global Embolization Symposium Technologies (GEST) conference May 19, 2022, in New York City.
Based in Phoenix, Advantage IR recently published results showing a significant decrease in knee pain in 188 patients who underwent Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE), a novel cutting-edge treatment for knee arthritis. The results of this minimally invasive, non-surgical alternative will be presented by Preston Smith, MD, at the GEST conference with hundreds of leading physicians in attendance.
“It is a privilege to present the world’s largest report of GAE outcomes at GEST 2022,” says Dr. Smith, Austin-based interventional radiologist (IR) and guest speaker at GEST. “Real world studies like ours will help further our understanding of embolization-based approaches to chronic inflammation and pain.”
In the last two years, Advantage IR has treated over 300 patients with a nearly 70% success rate for long term relief of chronic knee arthritis pain. Advantage IR expanded to its ninth office last month with clinics and treatment centers in Arizona, Texas and New Mexico.
“This novel single-session treatment for knee arthritis pain lasts more than a year, without injections and without surgery,” says David Wood, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Advantage IR. “Advantage IR is proud to be the nation’s largest provider of this life-changing treatment to patients who otherwise have limited options for pain relief.”
Interventional radiology is a relatively new branch of medicine, offering easy treatments with high success rates, and backed by thousands of published scholarly research articles. Dr. Smith and Dr. Wood are among the few leading IR physicians to offer minimally invasive treatments to all who qualify.
Advantage IR clinics perform over 1,000 treatments per year with over 175 new patient consultations monthly. Other conditions treated include uterine fibroids, prostate enlargement, peripheral artery disease, bleeding hemorrhoids, among others. Each procedure is a same-day treatment, typically lasting about an hour. Advantage IR clinics have completed 1,700+ treatments and counting.
Building on the nine existing clinics, Advantage IR plans to open an additional five clinics in the Texas and Arizona markets. The company’s goal is to provide top interventional radiologists in each market and educate patients about non-surgical, endovascular-based alternatives.
