Ever since 2018, when Canada legalized marijuana, our northern neighbor has become the largest single exporter of cannabis flower and oil in the world, with the market expected to exceed $8 billion.
Those of us who shop at cannabis dispensaries may not realize that we are the fortunate recipients of a form of pleasure that, not too long ago, could result in jail time for both those who sold weed and others who bought it. During the 1960s, when marijuana became widely popular among the hippies, loose flower was packaged in plastic bags, and transactions were carried out secretly, often on street corners or in dark apartments. But now that the distribution and use of marijuana has been proclaimed legal for medicinal use in 37 states, and recreational use in 19, Cannabis has come out in the open. Product is sold in well-appointed stores, their shelves stocked with product that displays the logos of world-class graphic designers. The floodgates of this marketplace have been opened. In a sense, the era in which we live can be seen as similar to the end of Prohibition in 1933, in which the entire US population was once again permitted to enjoy alcoholic beverages.
In this atmosphere, the Canadian retail chain Canna Cabana has done a stellar job in keeping up with an exploding marketplace. Known as the ‘Costco of Cannabis,’ Canna Cabana has expanded to over 125 shops, and offers strains of cannabis in different forms, including flower, pre-rolls and edibles. Shoppers attest to the fact that the chain’s product is both high quality and less expensive than what is sold in other marijuana dispensaries.
