We’ve all seen those paparazzi shots of famous models walking the streets of New York looking so effortlessly chic in the most basic of outfits. Maybe they are just leaving a photoshoot, casting call, meeting with their agent, or simply on their way home from their morning hot yoga class. Regardless, they always seem to be perfectly put together, so much so that this look has evolved into a whole style known as the “Off Duty Model” look. We chatted with Hannah Noelle, former model and founder of popular modeling and influencer agency Hannah Noelle Models, to find out exactly how to achieve this look.
So here are Hannah Noelle’s rules for perfecting the model off duty look.
- Keep It Simple
This look is all about keeping it simple. Stick to neutral colors such as black, white, beige, light pink, gray and denim. You’ll want to stay away from super bold prints and bright colors.
- Accessorize! Accessorize! Accessorize!
Accessories can make or break your outfit- those finishing touches are what make an outfit either work or seem so last year. A pair of gold hoops paired with a simple gold necklace never goes out of style. You can always add a bit more to the outfit with a trendy pair of mini sunglasses or a neutral colored claw clip in your hair.
- The “No-Make-Up” Makeup Look
The “No-Make-Up” makeup look is essential. When models are “off-duty” meaning not on set or on the runway, they tend to go for less makeup because they are likely running in between castings and fittings where brands and designers want to see their natural beauty shine through.
To get this look, all you really need is a good tinted moisturizer, concealer, bronzer, highlighter, eyebrow gel, and some lip gloss. The key to this look is to take really really good care of your skin with a proper skincare routine and by drinking lots of water!
- Hair
For hair, a blowout or messy bun can tie together the whole effortless look. Many models also go for the slicked back bun which is an easy way to achieve a put together look (especially if you’re having a bad hair day).
According to Hannah, these are the pieces you absolutely need to start off your off-duty model inspired wardrobe.
- Basic White Tee
Whether it’s a cropped tee to show off your ab lines or waist-length for a more conservative look, this piece can be so versatile and utilized in a variety of ways. Play with proportions and mix it up, a cropped tee with mid to high rise pants or jeans can give you the illusion of longer legs and make you appear taller, which is always a plus!
- Classic Leather Jacket
You really can’t go wrong with a good black leather jacket. Oversized jackets and moto jackets are the current go to’s. A leather jacket can be worn in so many different ways and is definitely a staple in every wardrobe.
- Standard White Sneakers
It’s no secret that throwing on a basic pair of white sneakers is as uncomplicated as it gets. It works well to maintain a relaxed vibe and to tone the outfit down. White sneakers go with everything and that’s why they are going to be a staple in your closet no matter what your style is. Add these with dresses, biker shorts, jeans, pants, or athleisure wear to give major model vibes. Hannah Noelle shared that she orders a new pair of white sneakers almost every single month, so she always has a fresh clean pair to wear with her outfits.
- Athleisure Wear
Ever wonder how models always seem so put together? Well, that’s because they have mastered the ability to pair athleisure like leggings and sweatpants with more statement pieces. When done right, pairing these two categories together can create a well balanced look. Athleisure is a trend that Hannah and many of her models hope will never go out of style!
According to Hannah, as long as you stick to neutral colors and basics such as denim, you really can’t go wrong. It is not just what you wear- but how you wear it. Confidence is key to effortlessly rocking any outfit or style. Wear pieces that make you feel hot and accentuate your best features. After all, beauty starts from within and fashion is your expression to the world.
