A1 Garage Door Service is joining the list of businesses now accepting Bitcoin and cryptocurrency as payment from customers. The Phoenix-based garage door sales and service company processed its first Bitcoin payment earlier this summer.
“It’s a historic day for the company, a historic day for me, and I think it’s going to launch A1 Garage Door Service into the future,” said owner and CEO Tommy Mello.
For consumers, this is a continued shift in businesses accepting Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies alongside traditional payments such as cash, check, and credit card. A1 Garage Door Service is one of the first home services companies to offer the option.
A1 Garage Door Service uses Coinbase, a digital asset exchange and marketplace for securely sending and receiving cryptocurrencies, to process payments. Customer invoices are based on the current exchange rate between Bitcoin and the American dollar.
The company accepted its first payment earlier this summer from a customer purchasing a new garage door and opener system for a remodeling project. With the housing market continuing to climb, homeowners are taking advantage of home improvement projects.
The garage door represents 40% of the curb appeal of the home, and garage doors offer one of the best return on investments of any home upgrade. Adding Bitcoin to the list of accepted payment options gives customers even more opportunities to update the smile of their home.
“I truly believe the world is turning to cryptocurrency,” Mello said. “I believe decentralized monetary sources are going to be the next big thing. The smartest companies in the world are starting to look at it, and we’re getting in early.”
