British producer and artist, Good Spells, is getting known for his own brand of alternative electronica, mixing ambient sound design, synths and samples to create otherworldly material. Speaking of music not of this world, Good Spells has teamed up with Canadian artist AN1ML to release a lofi / ambient hip hop style track, ‘In For The Kill’, set in space.
Previous release ‘Lost Ones’ was a sign of Spells’ solo signature and laid a foundation of what to come, but ‘In For The Kill’ takes a break from the signature with a more densely arranged song. The futuristic soundscape is punctuated with retro-sounding drums, making for a mountain of sound.
We mentioned space! The latest release enjoys an epic music video that sees the two artists lost in a galaxy far far away in what seems like a full movie packed into three minutes, something. They witness a calamity of epic proportions and as a viewer, we are left wondering just who (or what) is behind the event.
Released via Good Spells’ own imprint, Magic Not Music, via label service provider, Aux Label / Subdust, this release marks another chapter in a catalog that is building a real identity. Indeed, it seems YouTube has just granted Good Spells’ channel ‘official artist’ status.
Speaking about future music, Good Spells states that he has lots of new material in the making and also, videos being planned. He is exploring AI collaboration on future visuals to allow himself more time and focus on the music itself, which is his primary passion. He says: “Whilst music is my focus, I am also passionate about film. I often see the visuals for a song as I’m writing it and so the video side is very important to me. However, I can’t compromise on my music and so I’m looking into tools that can aid me on the visual side of my art, that will allow me the time I enjoy, on my music. I’m also up for collaborating with others, as I did on this release, with an old colleague of mine, Kraizy Art, who did a reel for me, for promo purposes, which was brilliant.”
Good Spells works from his unique studio space built inside an Airstream trailer, that he calls Spells’ Lab.
