Juan Torres is an accomplished Audio Engineer and Sound Designer based in New York City whose journey and achievements deserve to be recognized. He has lent his expertise to over 100 advertising spots for renowned companies such as Nissan, Papa John’s, Schwarzkopf, Travelers, Dial, and Volkswagen.
Some of his standout projects include Nissan’s Super Bowl ad ‘El Test Drive,’ featuring Marcello Hernandez and Grupo Frontera, the debut Schwarzkopf campaign showcasing new ambassador and Emmy winner Sofia Vergara alongside acclaimed hairstylist Chris Appleton, Dial’s soap ad starring Melissa Fumero from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Volkswagen’s ID x Buzz commercial featuring actor Tom Hardy as Venom.
Additionally, Juan played a pivotal role in the award-winning campaign ‘Are You Pressworthy?’, which garnered multiple accolades, including the prestigious Cannes Lion, Clio Awards, and D&AD Awards. He has also collaborated with industry heavyweights, including the acclaimed music composer and award-winning audio engineer Aaron Jaffe, further solidifying his reputation in the field.
Juan’s journey began at an early age. He was an accomplished violinist in his home country, performing in various cities. At 14, inspired by a Metallica concert, he switched to the guitar, his principal instrument ever since. His passion for music and audio led him to embark on a new adventure that ultimately brought him to America. To pursue his dream of making records and learning about audio, he studied at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California, and later at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where he completed a dual major.
In New York, he started to work as an Audio Engineer for the renowned advertising Agency TBWA\Chiat\Day NY. As an audio engineer for Chiat, he has worked for top-tier world companies in the post-production industry and gained valuable experience.
He has continuously learned and evolved, making his role more critical in each campaign that is heard and seen throughout the United States, from the Laundromats at BK to Times Square.
At TBWA Chiat Day NY, he has embraced a ‘disruptive’ approach, aligning with TBWA’s methodology. As a founding member of the Audio Team, his role has involved discovering innovative and groundbreaking tools. These tools have been used in quality control for over 100 TV, YouTube, and Netflix advertisements. His expertise encompasses all aspects of audio production for campaigns, from voice-over recording to editing and everything in between. Juan consistently defines and challenges himself to be an innovator in the audio field while working in advertising.
