Danielle Golez’s journey through the world of wine began in the picturesque Okanagan Valley, a region known for its rich vineyards and exceptional wines. Her exploration of Canadian wines grew from a deep appreciation for the land she was born and raised in.
“I’ve been trying different wines in a curious way to understand the differences between them,” she shares. “I’ve especially been very interested in Canadian wines, as I feel like I should appreciate what comes from the land I was born and raised in.”
The Okanagan Valley, with its unique climate and soil, offers a variety of wines that captivated Danielle’s interest. Her frequent visits to local vineyards and wineries in the region provided her with an immersive learning experience about wine and its complexities. “The tastes of wine will always depend on the climate, soil, and other factors that the vines grow from,” she explains. This journey also sparked a deep respect for dinner etiquette, complementing her passion for wine.
Danielle’s goal extends beyond just appreciating wine; she dreams of managing a vineyard and possibly starting a family brand. “Blessed with my networking skills, I believe I can achieve my goal of managing a vineyard,” she says. “I’ve always worked with my hands, coming from a family of farmers myself. I’d like to be hands-on and present in the field. I’d also like to travel to conventions all over the world and be the one in charge of promotion.”
When it comes to wine pairing, Danielle’s insights are both practical and delightful. “I eat a lot of seafood, so naturally, I’d pair it with Chardonnay,” she suggests. “I like a good Cabernet Sauvignon with sushi or even a sparkling Pinot Grigio Chardonnay with shrimp tempura; they complement each other very well, in my opinion.” One of her favorite unconventional pairings is chocolate with Pinot Noir, a combination she finds both surprising and exquisite.
Danielle’s passion for wine was further ignited during a ski trip to Big White in British Columbia. There, she met a sophisticated and classy lady who was a certified sommelier. “She introduced me to her occupation and what it entailed,” Danielle recalls. “I’d always been interested in the industry but had never personally met anyone living the scattered and unclear visions in my mind. Meeting her made me realize that this could be a world I see myself associating with.”
Her encounter with the sommelier reinforced her astronomical appreciation for wine and the vibrant community surrounding it.
Danielle’s love for wine is not just about the beverage itself but also about the culture and the people who share this passion. “Wine has been consumed for centuries and has been part of rituals and ceremonies for thousands of years,” she notes.
Through her journey, Danielle Golez hopes to share her love of wine with people from all walks of life, inspiring them to pursue their passions. “I’m grateful to be able to share my love of wine with others, and I hope to show people that they can accomplish their dreams if they truly follow their passions,” she says.
Danielle’s guide to wine pairing offers more than just suggestions; it provides a glimpse into a world where wine enhances not only the dining experience but also the joy of connecting with others. Her journey from the vineyards of the Okanagan Valley to her dreams of managing a vineyard and promoting wine on a global scale is a testament to her dedication and love for this timeless craft.
