Mid America Labs provides DOT physical examinations for drivers in the Midwest. As required by the Department of Transportation, DOT physicals ensure that people who drive commercial vehicles are mentally and physically able to operate a motor vehicle.
The staff at Mid-America Labs, Inc. are all DATIA-certified (Drugs and Alcohol Testing Industry Association) for urine, hair, and breath alcohol testing. Federal drug testing guidelines are closely followed in specimen collection, receiving, storage, quality control, and reporting.
These examinations are specifically for drivers who drive a vehicle that carries more than 15 people, has hazardous material, or a gross combination weight of 10,000 lbs or more. In order to ensure that the driver is fit for the road, DOT physicals involve an in-depth examination of the driver’s medical history and a hands-on physical exam.
Drivers may not qualify for the DOT certification if they have conditions or use substances that may affect their ability to operate a vehicle. Some conditions that would disqualify potential drivers are epilepsy, vision and hearing loss that can’t be corrected, illegal substance use, unstable heart conditions, respiratory conditions, vertigo, and other circumstances that may interfere with safe driving.
DOT examinations are imperative for ensuring that drivers are able to safely transport passengers and cargo and manage their vehicles in any environment. In addition to DOT physicals, Mid America Labs also offers non-DOT employment and recertification physicals for other professions. All testing and examinations are conducted in a professional and confidential manner.
