Hi Teyquil! Great to speak with you today!
Likewise, thanks so much for having me. Super happy to be here.
You released a new single recently! We are loving it. Do you have plans for another release soon?
Awwww, I am so glad you love it. That means a lot, really does. I actually do have another release coming up, sooner rather than later. I’m dropping my new Ep called “Calamity” on 6/23 and I’m pretty excited about it. Can’t wait for you guys to hear it.
What has been one of the moments of your career that stands out?
I would say, putting out music. This has been such a childhood dream of mine and music is all I think about. So, to have the opportunity to live it in real time blows my mind. Recording music at my leisure and perfecting my craft on my terms and being the deciding factor on what shapes me as an artist, stands out the most to me. They’re not big “wow” moments, but there moments that are powerful that make a huge impact on what I do and how I do it.
Tell us more about your music and what influences it?
My music is filled with emotion as it is accompanied with dark beautiful synths and thick heavy bass. It has melodic elements assisted by heartfelt chords and strings in support of my sad boy anthems. Though tempos change at times to a more upbeat approach, the layers of slower aggression in my music still linger and the lyrics that coincide with it all I feel influences the birth of what eventually becomes songs and mimi chapters of my life.
If you could open a show for any artist, who would it be?
Yes! Thank you for this question. I have a couple to acknowledge actually. One of them is John Mayer. This talented human soul has gotten me through college and just about every paper I’ve ever written has received an “A” when I listened to this man’s music. Another artist I’d love to open for is Sasha Alex Sloan as she is the mastermind at writing songs in my opinion. Sasha is so in touch with the realities of the world and is so humanly connected with what we’re experiencing in the present that it’s scary, yet so beautiful at the same time. Another artist I’d be ecstatic to open for would be Robyn. Robyn’s abilities to push the envelope musically and create platforms that only she can operate is iconic. I love her brilliance when it comes to her ideas and music inspirations, she is unstoppable in that regard and I’d love it so much to share a stage with her or any of the artists I’ve mentioned above.
What are some recent victories in your career that you are celebrating?
Wow! Well, my music video for my song “Need You” is scheduled to drop next month a bit before the ep comes out. My two internet radio shows have just reached 1.2k listens so that’s exciting! I have a punk, rock n’ roll show called Paranoid Radio that airs every last Saturday of every month at 8pmest and an indie pop show called EMOTION ROBOT which airs every last Sunday of every month at 8pmest both on mixlr.com/paranoid_radio. Also, here in Philadelphia we have an event called the Philly Fringe that happens every year where artists perform and put on original productions for the city. The event runs for a month straight and the audience has opportunities to see as many of these works as possible. I had the pleasure of performing at this event last year for the first time as I showcased my sound design show called “Soundscape Visualz“. It was well received so much that I won the Audience Choice Award in the music category. That’s not too bad for small victories in my opinion. Hahahaha.
What significance/role do you feel music plays in culture?
Music plays a major role in our culture as it is the soundtrack to millions living on earth. Music helps to express our feelings and emotions whether you’re a listener who relates or the creator who creates/conveys relatable topics through music where others connect and engage. Music is Universal and it’s our therapy on so many levels. It makes us cry, fall in love, makes us happy or sad, it moves us, it breaks us, it protects, it comforts, makes us angry but also connects us all. Music is life itself to a degree and that’s one of the significant parts I feel music plays well in our culture.
Please let everyone know where to keep up with you!
