In the wake of global crises and reconstruction efforts, a quiet revolution in vehicle protection is underway. Hintsteiner Defence, a leader in composite materials and protection systems, has announced Hi2Protect — an adaptable, lightweight armour solution designed to safeguard civilian and utility vehicles operating in conflict and disaster areas.
Developed in collaboration with Liebherr, one of the most recognized names in construction machinery, Hi2Protect brings cutting-edge defence technology into the civilian world. Its purpose: to keep people and vital equipment safe where it matters most.
The Need for a New Kind of Protection
Across regions such as Ukraine and the Gaza Strip, construction and logistics teams face conditions once reserved for military operations. Explosions, shrapnel, and small arms fire are daily threats. Yet until now, most civilian vehicles have lacked comprehensive protective systems beyond reinforced cabins.
“Hi2Protect was designed to change that,” said a Hintsteiner Defence spokesperson. “It’s a modular solution that can be attached to existing machinery — cranes, loaders, trucks — without major modifications. Protection shouldn’t depend on the vehicle’s origin. It should be accessible to anyone rebuilding a community.”

How It Works
Hi2Protect’s plug-and-protect design allows users to install or remove the system within hours. The panels, made from advanced composite materials, deliver ballistic protection up to STANAG Level 2 while maintaining vehicle mobility and payload capacity.
Unlike conventional armor, this system does not require factory-level engineering changes — a major advantage for emergency response teams or organizations deploying rapidly in unpredictable environments.

Safety With Purpose
Hi2Protect is more than a piece of engineering — it’s a response to a humanitarian challenge. By blending military-grade protection with civilian usability, Hintsteiner Defence has created a tool for peacebuilders, aid workers, and infrastructure teams who operate on the front lines of recovery.
“Every protected machine means more lives saved, more roads rebuilt, more hospitals standing,” said the company. “Hi2Protect represents safety through innovation — and progress through resilience.”
