As a leader in the finance industry, what are three key strategies you look to apply to your business practices?
I inspect what I expect. I constantly examine reports and documents for accuracy, especially attentive to detail. Choose a mentor, someone who is excelling in the industry who can share sound advice as needed. Do what can be done and ask for assistance and delegate tasks that can be delegated.
How does it feel to be a part of a Bestselling anthology, The Great LeadHERship Awakening?
The Great LeadHERship Awakening has been a phenomenal experience sharing and growing with ambitious female leaders in a variety of roles and industries. We all came together in Beverly Hills, CA for the book launch. We shared, we laughed and connected. It is truly an amazing experience that I will always cherish.
Why do you think it is significant to have more women in leadership roles?
Women are remarkable leaders both professionally and personally. They are natural nurturers able to effectively get tasks accomplished. Women are strong, courageous, determined and have the innate ability to work together to build meaningful relationships.
What was the best advice you have ever been given by someone, and why was it so helpful to you?
The best advice I have ever been given was by my grandmother – she told me as a child to share. She lived a simple life and was always willing to share what she had with others. I was reluctant at first thinking if I share, I will have less. One day I decided to listen to my granny and share my candy and to my surprise someone gave me more than I had to begin with. I began sharing my books with other children and gradually began sharing my time reading to children in recovery at Egleston Children’s Hospital to nurture their recovery. Now, I share financial tools to manage money. I share my caregiving skills to family and friends. I embraced this advice in both my profession and personal life and to this day I live a life of service which has transformed my life.
As a current finance industry leader, was there someone who helped propel you to be successful in the role you are today?
Yes, my mother taught me how to succeed as an entrepreneur. She demonstrated a strong work ethic both as a math teacher and entrepreneur. She taught me the importance of being resilient and unstoppable. I am grateful for all she taught me to succeed in corporate America and to succeed in personal relationships. She worked in sales/marketing, and I was intrigued at first and loved the enthusiasm and appreciation of my Mom and her customers. She inspired me to begin sales/marketing as a teenager and I am grateful for the ability to make a difference in the lives of others. I began my career in sales and speaking publicly throughout America and Canada as a teenager. I loved it.
