Why did you write SELL YOUR BOOKS TODAY instead of just pitching for authors to sign up with your company?
One of the saddest things to see is when people work so hard at writing a book and getting it published, only to find their launch barely get ground before the book disappears with barely a peep, leaving them depressed.
Why do you think that happens?
Look at every television show and movie where a character writes a book. Immediately they are at a table in a bookstore with long lines of buyers out the door. Most writers forget that’s fantasy, and it helps move the plot along.
What’s the first thing you would tell writers who expect that to happen?
People can’t buy your books until they know about them and you give them a reason to want to read it. To do this you need to promote it in print and broadcast media, social media, get your friends to form a street team, throw a launch party with food and entertainment.
That’s what a publicist usually does, right?
True, though many people either don’t know about publicity firms, or if they do they can’t afford them. My book, like my DIY Book Promo groups, teach people how to be their own promoter and get results. SELL YOUR BOOKS TODAY can also be used to help someone be their friend’s promoter.
Can you name one important thing those newly published authors should always remember?
Whomever you’re interacting with, media, bookstore owners, or potential buyers, always respect their time and their work. And be sincere – they know the difference between respect and faking it.
