Inspiring people not only exist in movies and YouTube videos, but we can find them most likely right next door. The start of the COVID-19 pandemic, which took the world by surprise, made us discover the important role of nurses in our society, especially doctors and other health professionals. When the world was on lockdown due to the pandemic, healthcare workers were on the front lines of the fight, saving lives. In fact, not all heroes wear capes, and healthcare workers are one of them. Therefore, it is important to commend and reward their efforts as these medical professionals continue to provide quality services.
In the spirit of appreciating health professionals’ fight against the pandemic, Minoo, a Switzerland-based American abstract painting artist, supports caretakers working in Swiss local hospitals by sharing a special creative gift package. The package was tagged “Serenity”, and each package contains an original painting, an original poem, and a box of chocolates. It was distributed to caretaker teams across Switzerland’s four largest hospitals and was widely appreciated by recipients. Hospitals that benefited from the program include University Hospitals in Geneva, Zurich, Bern, and Lausanne.
In the spirit of appreciating healthcare workers’ fight against the pandemic, Minoo, a Swiss-American abstract painter, is supporting caregivers working at local Swiss hospitals by sharing a special creative gift pack. The package was labeled “Serenity” and each package contains an original painting, an original poem, and a box of Swiss chocolates. It was distributed to nursing teams in the four largest university hospitals in Switzerland and was very well received by the recipients.
Minoo explained that the caring gesture was to show support for hospital teams and to let them know that their efforts during their endless work shifts were much appreciated. She said, “I have several friends who work in the medical field, and they tell me how tired and disillusioned their colleagues are. The pandemic has been going on for so long that the care teams are stretched to their limits, and I wanted to show them that their efforts are not forgotten.”
The artist went on to reveal that through her friends in the healthcare sector, she was given a unique insight into the huge challenges and frustrations faced by care teams in the country. So she decided to show support in the best way she can – through her artwork. The inspired artist has worked in the past in humanitarian creative projects in hospitals to help cancer patients have lighthearted moments during their treatment.
The hospitals that received the packages expressed their thankfulness and appreciation for the positive initiative. The chocolates were shared with the team members on-call, and management promised that the paintings would be hung in a special place for all employees to see. One hospital in the French-speaking part of Switzerland was so enthusiastic that they included the project in their latest newsletter and sent it to all employees, which led to even more positive feedback from additional units.
Today’s Support of Health Professionals Against COVID-19
Looking back to the start of the coronavirus pandemic two years ago, doctors and other healthcare workers have been on the front lines in the fight against the pandemic. And in gratitude for their efforts and hard work, everyone got together, stood on the balconies every night and applauded the hospital staff, banged pots and pans in support, made videos, and praised them on social media.
However, if we fast forward to the present moment, the situation seems to have changed slightly. Health workers don’t get much attention anymore. Taking into account the discovery of new variants of Covid and the dizzying number of infected seeing hospital intensive care units filling up. Health workers need public support now more than ever. Unfortunately, public support is at an all-time low, perhaps because people are increasingly frustrated with the new reality of face masks and social distancing measures.
However, we must remember that most of these health workers have to solve their personal problems, grapple with the social and economic difficulties caused by the pandemic, and still have to show up for work every day to face the virus. These heroes are having a tough time too, and the least we can do is appreciate their various abilities. As such, this is a wake-up call to the public to emulate Minoo and show their support for healthcare workers in any way they can, to motivate them to continue their efforts to the best of their ability. We all need to support them so they can continue to save others.
