The manufacturing field has witnessed a remarkable shift through the use of advanced technology. The term Advanced Manufacturing has become commonly used when referring to the utilization of innovative and cutting-edge technology to improve products and processes.

This transition in the field came gradually and with the persistence and guidance of many leaders in the advanced manufacturing domain.

Garrett Gendron Discusses the Intersection of Data Management and Sales Success

One of those leaders is Dr. Dean Bartles, who is currently President and Chief Executive Officer at Manufacturing Technology Deployment Group, Inc. (MTDG). He was part of the change through the different positions that he held, including President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) and Director of the John Olson Advanced Manufacturing Center at the University of New Hampshire.

How Did Dr. Bartles’ Journey Begin?

Dean grew up in a house with his father’s welding and machine shop practically in the backyard. He began working in his father’s shop at a young age and soon mastered the fundamentals of operating a lathe, milling machine, drill press, welder, and other types of machinery.

His career kick-started after graduating from college as an Associate Industrial Engineer performing time studies in the fiberglass composites bonding shop at the Fairchild Republic in Hagerstown, MD.

After that, Dean worked for General Dynamics Corporation for 30 years, setting up and running manufacturing operations in Egypt, Turkey, and the U.S.

Dean has carried his dream of positively impacting small and medium businesses since a young age and he kept working hard towards achieving it.

Bartles’ Contribution to the Advanced Manufacturing

Through his current position in MTDG, the non-profit National Center for Defense NCDMM, and Advanced Manufacturing International, Inc. (AMI), Dr. Dean is still greatly contributing to the change in the field altogether.

Dr. Bartles is firmly committed to transforming the advanced manufacturing industrial base throughout the world by driving innovation and accelerating growth.

The organization offers various services such as Advanced Technology Integration, Low-cost Digital Products, Digital Security, and many more services. His passion drives the committed innovator to help small and medium manufactures grow. He is a strong advocate for the use of digital and smart manufacturing technologies to be able to improve both the products and processes.

Many define advanced manufacturers as those that succeed in today’s competitive environment. Dr. Dean has always been aiming toward this goal, he believes that the key to success is not only using innovative technology but also knowing when to select the right choice for your business and products.

Mr. Bartles has also gained the trust of people working in the same field:

“Dean is one of the most inspiring and supportive leaders I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. If you’re looking for rapid business growth he’s your man” Said George Barnych, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at the National Center for Defense Manufacturing & Machining (NCDMM).

The advanced manufacturing field is growing exponentially day by day, and thanks to the effort and commitment of great leaders such as Dr. Bartles, this development became a possibility.
