Emerging pop sensation Jordyn Tareaz is introducing her dynamic debut EP titled “It’s Not Like The Movies”. The EP will be available for streaming on March 22nd. Through diaristic and honest lyricism, the EP goes beyond mere introduction and immerses listeners in Tareaz’s intimate narrative. Its content embodies a hopeful perspective on the future and a process of reconciling with the present while cultivating inner confidence and self-worth. Tareaz reflects on moments that, though not cinematically picturesque at times, shaped her journey to the present.
“It’s Not Like The Movies” is a narrative prelude to Tareaz’s debut single, “So Good (On My Own)“. The EP illustrates Tareaz’s journey toward attaining the heightened confidence evident in her first single release. Inspired by influential women like Raye, Reneé Rapp, and Chlöe, Tareaz draws upon their experiences in harnessing adversity to fuel their journey toward confidence and empowerment.
Tareaz collaborated with co-producers Sabrina Song and Emma Rose Botti, mixer Samantha Henry, and mastering engineer Gabi Grella, to deliver a compelling and polished sound that showcases her artistic versatility with an all-female team. She aspires for listeners to walk away from the project with a comforting realization: that the resolution to a chapter in one’s life can originate from within, rather than relying on external influences. Despite life’s chaos, it’s crucial to maintain faith in one’s inner strength and resilience.
Track 1: “Dizzy”
Tareaz explores the feeling of life being in chaos in this track. She wrote this song shortly before graduating, a time characterized by a lot of uncertainty about her future plans. The goal was to convey the raw emotions she felt during this period, breaking down barriers to reveal the inner turmoil beneath the surface. Together with Kristina Sarro, they collaborated to co-write the song, capturing vulnerability and introspection with a bouncy synth-heavy beat and soaring vocals.
Track 2: “Again”
The song “Again” delves into the realization that one’s own flaws contributed to the end of a relationship. Specifically, it deals with the difficulty of being vulnerable and the notion that vulnerability is unattainable. Tareaz highlights a crucial message behind the song, stating, “I want to demonstrate to my Black audience that it’s okay to cry and to embrace all the emotions you may be experiencing without apologizing.” She adds, “There are many stereotypes about how a Black woman should express herself and be perceived. However, I just want to be genuine and true to myself and allow myself to evolve.”
Track 3: “Over You”
This emotional track reflects on past regrets that followed the events depicted in “Again.” Tareaz eventually realized a mistake he had made, although it was too late to fix it. The song captures the feeling of acknowledging the loss of something valuable. Tareaz wrote the song alone in late 2022, during a moment of reflection at a Los Angeles coffee shop.
Track 4: “Love Me Right”
This self-assured anthem empowers individuals to embrace their inner strength while exploring the pursuit of external validation with an explosive chorus and a swelling finish.
Track 5: “Happy Ending”
“Happy Ending” is a song that delves into the theme of self-discovery and emphasizes on the idea that we have the ability to create our inner peace and happiness, regardless of external circumstances. It serves as a calming contrast to the EP’s opening track and encourages listeners to be optimistic and confident in themselves. Tareaz is the sole writer of this song, which concludes with a voicemail from her Auntie Val, a significant figure in her life who has always provided her with unwavering support and guidance. During her challenging college years, Tareaz found comfort in the presence of her mother and aunt, including Auntie Val, who affectionately assures her in the voicemail that she is doing great. This message carries a special meaning, reminding us that despite life’s imperfections, it is always possible to find hope and happiness in every chapter.
