How to Store Bulk Spices for Long-Lasting Freshness and Potency

Storing the best bulk spices starts with selecting appropriate containers for storage. Glass jars, especially ones with lids that screw on, offer one of the best solutions because glass doesn’t react with the spices and keeps the freshness and fragrance intact. Metal tins are also sufficiently compatible as long as they are lined with a non-reactive coating. Plastic containers are helpful, but you should be careful as they may absorb flavors. Choosing non-transparent containers shields spices from light, another enemy of freshness.
