Hailing from the rainy Pacific Northwest in Oregon, Carter Davis is an eighteen-year-old songwriter, rapper, and musician who is known for his artist persona, NORD. In addition to the more than one-billion global music plays across his original and collaborative discography of Hip Hop, Pop, and R&B inspired songs; the passionate teenager is now looking at inspiring and contributing to a cause that aids directly in the progress of neglected humanitarian change that lies far beyond the music industry.
Historically, women have been neglected and denied the chance for equal opportunity in a vast multitude of functioning roles in the modern world. Carter (NORD) understands the unfair nature and struggle of this widespread targeted discrimination on a deep level, that is unfortunately still present in today’s society, despite growing advocacy in the fight for women’s rights over the past decade’s course. Davis strives to empower both the women present in his life and worldwide through the sharing of his carefully crafted, upbeat, and original music. Many female musicians, who are not only notable for their Pop and R&B staple anthems, but also strong advocates for feminism, also favor working alongside NORD in a music studio environment. Ice Spice, Rebecca Black, and Addison Rae are among Carter’s songwriting partners.
NORD is a frequent and generous contributor to organizations that manifest and create opportunities on the ground in places around the world, where an equal social playing field between genders appears to be non-existent. According to a 2020 report by Amnesty International, South Africa has one of the most gender-unequal educational systems in the world, with the widest gap between the test scores of the top twenty percent of schools and the remaining eighty percent. While a priority for the South African government is a higher quality of education for the youth, statistics show that there is much furthering progress to be made in the fields of activism and equal opportunity for young women throughout the country. In response to learning about this geographical oppression in the late months of last year, Carter proceeded to play a significant role in the process of building three new buildings on an all-girls school campus located in South Africa, dedicated to expanding recreational and extracurricular activity availability for the young women who attend.
As of February of this year, the girls-only campus building renovations that were funded entirely by the Oregon rapper and artist have been completed. The three 750 sq ft (~69 sq m) rooms are being utilized for the enhanced efficiency in the development of the students’ reading, writing, and career skills. The students have expressed their gratitude for the newly conceptualized learning spaces on multiple occasions, with hopes of more creative learning programs being offered by Legacy Girls’ Education SA in the near future. In celebration of this milestone in the furtherance of available opportunities for aspiring young women in less-fortunate locations globally, NORD (Carter Davis) continues to practice his original and joint-effort musical craft, as well as hopes to partake in many more humanitarian activism activities.
