The famous Australian chip brand, Red Rock Deli, known for its rich and diverse flavors, has announced an unprecedented collaboration. The chip brand has teamed up with multi-platinum Australian artist Pnau, who is based in L.A. This partnership celebrates the launch of the company’s new platform, “Awaken Your Senses.” The legendary duo has come together to create a groundbreaking track made entirely from Red Rock Deli ingredients.
The newly released anthem track, “All Your Energy,” features sounds that have been recorded and sampled from beloved Red Rock Deli ingredients. These include the sounds of a chili “clap,” a lime “synth,” and black pepper crushed with a mortar and pestle “bass.” The combination of Pnau’s acclaimed electronic tones and Red Rock Deli’s bold, rich, and complex flavors promises to excite the senses.
The ingredient’s disruptive soundscapes were manipulated into musical elements and mixed to create the track. The process was documented as part of Red Rock Deli’s new campaign. Inspired by the trend for unique sound sampling among producers, Pnau composed an entire track with unique sounds from Red Rock Deli’s indulgent ingredient combinations. They took a step further than the trend for unusual sound sampling that includes sounds such as squeaky doors and pedestrian crossing sounds, as well as fire alarms.
Pnau frontman Nick Littlemore spoke about making the track; “Working with Red Rock Deli on ‘All Your Energy’ has been an interesting space for us to play in. The fusion of music and food is something we haven’t done before, and it sets a new challenge for us. ‘All Your Energy’ is a quintessential Pnau track but with complex new layers for our fans to explore.”
Experimenting with each ingredient to reveal its hidden musical qualities created an intriguing track. The finished product showcases unexpected sounds that you wouldn’t expect from a snack, highlighting the unique depth of flavour that Red Rock Deli ingredients possess.
For instance, the track’s hi-hats were created by mixing the crunch of a Red Rock Deli potato chip with the sound of an electric starter of a gas stovetop. The gas stovetop ‘ticking’ was pitched down by 14 semitones and shortened to be snappier. The sound of the chip was then added on every offbeat, with additional sound techniques used to tighten the feel.
This rare collaboration merges the worlds of food and music, creating multi-sensory experiences that can stimulate the senses. It aims to show how flavour sensations can enhance how you experience sounds, and how tapping into all our senses can enrich our lives.
Red Rock Deli is committed to pushing the boundaries of sensory exploration and perpetually develops a range of complex and layered flavours to excite the senses.
The track “All Your Energy” can now be found on Spotify or Apple Music.
